Government Launches Nationwide Dengue Outbreak Prevention Campaign
Health authorities have mobilized teams across 45 districts as dengue cases surge during the monsoon season.
The Ministry of Health and Population has launched an extensive dengue prevention campaign across 45 districts identified as high-risk zones. The initiative includes fogging operations, distribution of mosquito nets, and community awareness programs targeting urban and semi-urban areas.
According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, over 12,000 dengue cases have been reported this monsoon season, with the Kathmandu Valley alone accounting for nearly 4,000 infections. Health officials warn that stagnant water from recent heavy rains has created ideal breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
Hospitals in Terai districts have been placed on high alert and instructed to maintain adequate stocks of intravenous fluids and platelet supplies. The government has also deployed rapid diagnostic test kits to primary health centers in rural areas to improve early detection.
Public health experts are urging citizens to eliminate standing water around homes, use insect repellent, and seek medical attention immediately if they experience high fever, severe headache, or joint pain. The campaign will continue through the end of the monsoon season in October.
