Global Refugee Crisis Reaches Record 130 Million Displaced

The United Nations refugee agency UNHCR released its annual report revealing that 130 million people worldwide are now forcibly displaced, the highest figure ever recorded. The number has doubled in the past decade.

Ongoing conflicts in Sudan, Myanmar, and the Sahel region are major drivers, along with climate-related displacement in South Asia and East Africa. The agency warned that current humanitarian funding meets less than half of global needs.

UNHCR High Commissioner called for a fundamental rethinking of the international response to displacement, emphasizing the need for development-based solutions rather than just emergency aid.

Nepal hosts approximately 20,000 refugees, primarily from Bhutan and Tibet. The government has been praised for its integration programs but faces pressure as new arrivals continue.
