Deuba Faction Agrees to Withdraw Writ Against Election Commission Decision

Kathmandu —

The Sher Bahadur Deuba faction of the Nepali Congress has agreed to withdraw the writ petition filed in court against the Election Commission’s decision to update the Central Working Committee elected through the special general convention.

The petition was filed on Sunday by then Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, and its preliminary hearing was scheduled for Tuesday.

Claiming that the Election Commission’s decision was against Nepal’s Constitution and existing laws, the Deuba faction had earlier announced plans for legal action and street protests.
However, since Khadka himself filed the case declaring the newly elected committee illegal, he has decided not to contest the election on moral grounds.

Preparations are underway to withdraw the writ before the case is heard on Tuesday.
