New Federal Budget Allocates Record Funds for Agriculture Sector
The government has earmarked 80 billion rupees for agricultural modernization in the upcoming fiscal year.
Finance Minister presented the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year, allocating a record 80 billion rupees to the agriculture sector. The allocation represents a 40 percent increase from the previous year.
Key initiatives include subsidized seeds and fertilizers for small farmers, establishment of cold storage facilities in all 77 districts, and introduction of agricultural insurance schemes to protect farmers from crop failures.
The budget also proposes tax incentives for agro-processing industries and increased funding for agricultural research institutions. Irrigation projects in the Terai region will receive special attention.
Farmers' organizations have cautiously welcomed the budget, noting that effective implementation will be crucial. They urged the government to ensure that funds reach grassroots level without bureaucratic delays.
