Election Commission Announces Local Elections Scheduled for May
Local body elections will be held across all 753 local units in the country next May.
The Election Commission announced on Wednesday that local body elections will be held on May 13 across all 753 local units. Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya urged all political parties to begin preparations immediately.
This will be the second local election cycle since the adoption of the new federal constitution. Voter registration drives will begin next month, with special outreach efforts targeting remote mountain districts.
Political parties have welcomed the announcement, though some smaller parties have called for a review of the electoral boundaries before the vote. The commission has allocated a budget of 12 billion rupees for the elections.
Security agencies have been directed to prepare comprehensive plans to ensure peaceful elections. Over 200,000 security personnel are expected to be deployed across the country on election day.
