Nepal Telecom Launches 5G Network in Kathmandu Valley

Nepal Telecom officially launched its 5G network across the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday, making Nepal one of the first South Asian countries outside India to offer commercial 5G services. The rollout covers Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts.

Initial tests show download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps in areas with strong coverage. The company has installed 450 5G base stations across the valley, with plans to expand to Pokhara and Chitwan by the end of the year.

Customers with 5G-compatible devices can access the new network by upgrading their existing plans. Nepal Telecom is offering introductory packages starting at 1,500 rupees per month for 100 GB of 5G data.

Industry analysts believe 5G will accelerate innovation in sectors like telemedicine, smart agriculture, and e-learning, which are critical for Nepal's economic development goals.
