Nepal Unveils Ambitious Digital Transformation Strategy for 2026
The government has launched a comprehensive plan to digitize all public services within two years.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology officially launched Nepal's Digital Transformation Strategy on Monday, aiming to bring all government services online by 2028. The initiative covers 14 key sectors including health, education, agriculture, and land administration.
Under the plan, every citizen will receive a unique digital identity linked to their national ID card. This digital ID will enable seamless access to over 300 government services through a unified portal and mobile application.
The government has allocated 25 billion rupees for the initiative and secured technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank. Training programs for 50,000 government employees will begin next quarter.
Technology experts have praised the strategy but cautioned that internet connectivity in rural areas must be addressed first. Currently, only 65 percent of Nepal's population has reliable internet access.
