Nepali Tech Startups Secure Record 8 Billion Rupees in Funding

Nepal's tech startup ecosystem attracted a record 8 billion rupees in venture capital funding during the last fiscal year, marking a 120 percent increase over the previous year. The figures were released by the Nepal Startup Council in its annual report.

Fintech companies led the way, securing 3.2 billion rupees across 15 deals. Healthtech and edtech sectors followed closely, driven by continued digital adoption post-pandemic. Notable raises included a 1.5 billion rupee Series A round by digital payments platform KhaltiPay.

International investors from Singapore, India, and the United States accounted for 60 percent of total funding, signaling growing global confidence in Nepal's tech sector. The government's startup-friendly policies, including tax breaks for tech companies, have been credited for the surge.

The Startup Council projects that the ecosystem could attract 15 billion rupees in funding by 2028 if current growth trends continue. Over 200 new tech startups were registered in the past year alone.
