Everest Marathon Breaks Participation Record with 350 Runners

The Everest Marathon, the world's highest marathon starting at 5,364 meters near Everest Base Camp, broke its participation record this year with 350 runners from 42 countries. The event, now in its 23rd edition, has become one of the most prestigious adventure races globally.

Nepali runner Suman Kulung won the men's race in a course record time of 3 hours 28 minutes, while British runner Emily Watson claimed the women's title in 4 hours 12 minutes. The grueling downhill course from Gorak Shep to Namche Bazaar tests even the fittest athletes.

The marathon generated an estimated 200 million rupees in tourism revenue for the Solukhumbhu region. Local communities along the route provided aid stations, showcasing Sherpa hospitality and culture to international runners.

Organizers have announced that next year's event will include a new ultra-marathon category covering 60 kilometers, responding to growing demand from extreme distance runners worldwide.
