National Swimming Championship Sees Five New Records at Satdobato Pool
Five national records were broken at the annual swimming championship held at the newly upgraded aquatics center in Lalitpur.
The 28th National Swimming Championship concluded on Sunday at the newly upgraded Satdobato Aquatics Center in Lalitpur, with five national records falling across three days of competition. Over 280 swimmers from all seven provinces participated in the event.
Teenager Aayush Joshi stole the spotlight by breaking two national records in the men's 100m and 200m freestyle events. His time of 51.8 seconds in the 100m freestyle broke a record that had stood for seven years.
The women's competition saw equally impressive performances, with Samiksha Acharya setting new marks in the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley. Swimming coach attributed the improved performances to the upgraded facility, which now meets international competition standards.
The Nepal Swimming Association announced a talent identification program that will scout promising young swimmers from all 77 districts, with the goal of developing medal contenders for regional and Asian-level competitions.
