Nepal Women's Cricket Team Wins Asia Cup Qualifier Title
The women's cricket team defeated Malaysia in the final to qualify for the Asia Cup main tournament for the first time.
Nepal women's cricket team claimed the Asia Cup Qualifier title on Friday, defeating Malaysia by 7 wickets in the final held in Kuala Lumpur. Captain Indu Barma led the chase with an unbeaten 72, guiding Nepal home with 15 balls to spare.
The team went unbeaten through the tournament, winning all six matches convincingly. Spinner Sita Rana Magar was named player of the tournament after claiming 14 wickets at an average of just 8.5 across the competition.
This qualification marks a significant milestone for women's cricket in Nepal, which has seen increased investment and professionalization over the past three years. The Cricket Association now provides full-time contracts to the top 20 women players.
The team will now compete in the Asia Cup main tournament alongside India, Australia, Sri Lanka, and other top teams. Head coach praised the players' discipline and determination throughout the qualifier campaign.
