Nepal Martial Arts Team Wins 12 Medals at Asian Championship
Nepali martial artists returned from the Asian Karate Championship with 5 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Nepal's karate team delivered a dominant performance at the Asian Karate Championship in Tokyo, returning home with 12 medals including 5 golds. The results represent Nepal's best-ever showing at the continental championship.
Mangal Maharjan captured the men's 67kg gold with a stunning final victory over a Japanese opponent, becoming the first Nepali to defeat a Japanese competitor in senior karate. Nisha Shrestha won gold in the women's 55kg category and was named the tournament's outstanding female athlete.
The success is attributed to a training partnership with the Japan Karate Federation, which has provided Nepali athletes access to world-class coaching and facilities over the past two years. Six athletes trained in Japan for three months before the championship.
The Nepal Karate Association announced plans to establish a national high-performance center in Lalitpur with Japanese assistance, aiming to produce Olympic-level competitors within the next training cycle.
